Orthotic Additions & Mods

ORTHOTIC WIDTH
• Orthotics are fabricated relative to foot width. Request wide or narrow to accommodate footwear.

1ST RAY CUTOUT

• Notch cut into shell to allow for plantar-flexed first ray. If Fore-foot EVA extension is used then notch is in EVA only.

DEEP HEEL CUP
• Adds an additional 5mm of depth to the default heel cup height for the orthotic style selected.

HEEL LIFT
• Can be attached to the orthotic via an Extrinsic EVA Hind-foot post or supplied as a separate EVA wedge. Please indicate on order form.

HEEL WELL

• Oval shaped recess filled with soft PPT to relieve pressure at spur site, particularly for heel spur or plantar fascia origin point tenderness. A heel well is designed to provide cushioning and relief from heel spurs.

METATARSAL PAD
• A teardrop shaped pad placed just behind the heads of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, metatarsal heads to unweight the MTP joints and support the transverse arch. The met pad re-creates the metatarsal arch, moving the metatarsal bones into better alignment.

Heights are as follows: Low - 1/8”, Medium - 3/16”, and High - 1/4”

METATARSAL BAR
• A bar that travels transversely across the anterior edge of the orthotic. It is designed to lift all the metatarsal shafts to reduce pressure on the metatarsal heads. Like the met pad, it goes approximately 2-3mm past the distal edge of the orthotic. EVA is added to the anterior edge of the shell. Can be incorporated into a soft shell design.

NEUROMA PAD
• Similar to a metatarsal pad but this pad is narrower and is placed between the metatarsa shafts to separate them and increase the inter-digital space.

MORTONS EXTENSION
• A piece of EVA that is designed to reduce the amount that the big toe has to bend when walking. A useful addition when bending of the toe causes pain in the 1st MTP. The extension is added under the first ray so it will accept more pressure at toe-off, and thereby reducing the pressure the 2nd ray accepts in a Morton’s Toe condition.

Can be sulcus or full-length; made using the shell material or optional EVA.

REVERSE MORTONS
• Designed to reduce pressure under the 1st MTP. This is done by creating empty space under the 1st MTP, while the areas around the 1st MTP are supported.

TWO-FIVE EXTENSION
• Also called a Reverse Morton’s. EVA material is added to support the lesser rays to allow them to accept more pressure at toe-off and to reduce the pressure the 1st accepts at toe-off. It can also be added when the first ray is plantar-flexed. For orthotics with sulcus length extensions, the extension material is cut away under the 1st MTP joint and hallux.

RIGID TOE EXTENSIONS
• Incorporated into the shell design to limit toe extension. Is used when MTP joint function is diminished or when pain is experienced in this area during toe-off.

Optional Fore-foot EXTENSIONS
• Used to provide extra cushioning for the Fore-foot area. These must be added to 3/4 length orthotics when pressure relief sweet spots are needed. Length of the extension is determined by the patient’s condition and the depth of the shoe.

Optional Top-Covers:

All available in 3/4, Sulcus or Full Length

VINYL, LEATHER, NEOPRENE - Self explanatory

MICRO-CELL PUFF - 1/16” and 1/8”

• A closed cell foam cover material, that provides
excellent shock absorption and resists bottoming out. Available in two thicknesses. Recommended for people who are allergic to neoprene products or who are
involved in high friction sports like tennis or basketball.

PLASTAZOTE - 1/8” 3/16” and 1/4”
• A closed cell foam that is hypoallergenic and contours easily to the foot. It also moves with the skin surface reducing the chance of friction problems. It does bottom out (pack down) very quickly and should be used with an underlay of PPT. Is generally used in conjunction with PPT for the diabetic foot.

PPT - 1/16” and 1/8”
• PPT is a highly shock absorbent material that resists bottoming out. It is an excellent material to use between the shell and the topcover.

COMBINATION COVERS
• Most of the above topcover materials can be combined. Our most popular combinations are included on the price list. Any special requirements, please call.
